Responsibility at Millarco

Millarco was founded as a Jutland-based grocery business and has been based in the same city for nearly 40 years. Today, we operate internationally, but our foundation remains the same: integrity, long-term thinking, and a sense of responsibility for the business we run.

How We Work

For us, responsibility isn’t just about big words. It’s about taking responsibility for our own activities, for the value chains we’re part of, and for the world around us. Our work is organized into three areas: environment, people, and the value chain; as well as governance and documentation.

Environment
People and the Value Chain
Management and Documentation

We address environmental issues where they relate to the way we conduct our business. This includes energy used in our own operations, packaging, waste, producer responsibility, and selected requirements in the value chain.

For us, responsibility begins with fair conditions and fair cooperation. This applies both within the company and throughout the value chain of which we are a part.

If you want to take responsibility, you need to have things under control. That’s why we work with clearly defined roles, internal processes, a solid data foundation, and effective communication.

Operations and Energy

In our day-to-day operations, we focus on matters related to our own facilities and how they are managed. This also includes solar panels and charging stations, as they are part of our day-to-day operations.

Packaging, Waste, and Producer Responsibility

Packaging and handling products at the end of their useful life are an integral part of our business. That is why we address producer responsibility and waste management as part of the requirements associated with our operations.

Materials and Traceability

In areas where it is relevant to our product range, we focus on documentation and traceability regarding materials and supplier requirements. This applies, for example, to wood-based products.

FSC

For relevant wood-based products, we work with FSC certification and traceability throughout the value chain.

Workplace and Everyday Life

We want to be a workplace where people can do their jobs, take responsibility, and be part of a community that really works in practice. It’s all about everyday life in the warehouse, in the office, and in cross-departmental collaboration.

Learning and Professionalism

A company can only grow if its people grow with it. That is why we focus on knowledge sharing, training, and ongoing development in the functions that drive the business.

Suppliers and Human Rights

As a trading company without our own production facilities, we are part of international value chains. We address supplier requirements, documentation, dialogue, and risk assessment where relevant.

amfori BSCI

amfori BSCI is an integral part of our work on supplier requirements and responsibility in the supply chain. It is a concrete system that we use in our supplier follow-up and dialogue.

Community Involvement

In addition to our own operations and our value chain, we support selected causes and initiatives. This is part of how we do business, but it is not something we use as a shortcut to describe our entire corporate social responsibility efforts.

Responsibility and Accountability

A commitment to accountability must be deeply embedded in the organization. That is why we emphasize clear accountability, cross-functional collaboration, and follow-up within the departments where the work is carried out.

Documentation and Data Sources

We place great importance on ensuring that everything we communicate externally can be documented. That is why we focus on structure, data quality, and a more robust foundation for reporting and customer dialogue.

Ethics and Whistleblowers

Integrity also means that there must be an opportunity to speak up if something is not as it should be. That is why ethics, integrity, and a whistleblower policy are integral to the way we work.

Communication

We try to write the way we run our business: straight to the point. That’s why we prefer to describe specific circumstances, systems, and processes rather than use big words that promise more than they can deliver.

Food Safety Smileys and Relevant Control Measures

In areas where food safety and regulatory oversight are relevant, this is incorporated into our compliance efforts. In these cases, we refer to the applicable oversight requirements and documentation.

Certifications, Programs, and Memberships

We participate in programs, certification schemes, and industry associations that are relevant to the business we operate. Among other things, these support traceability, supplier requirements, producer responsibility, and documentation.

Our Commitment to the Community

We support causes that make a difference

In addition to our own operations and value chain, Millarco supports selected organizations and initiatives. We have been a corporate partner of the Danish Cancer Society since 2004, supporting its work in research, prevention, and counseling for people affected by cancer.

Since 2022, we have been a member of the Red Cross Business Club and help ensure assistance for vulnerable people in Denmark and around the world.

We are also a partner of Hjertegalla, where we support the Danish Heart Association’s work in heart research and its efforts to help people with heart disease.

It’s part of who we are as a company, but not something we use as a shortcut to describe our entire sustainability efforts.
